Summertime
Delight Herb Garden was established in
Kennebunk, Maine in 1971. It is a small
home business that has grown from my study and
enthusiasm for herbs over the years. I
am traditional in my approach to herbs and their
uses in our daily lives. I am a collector
of plants and so the garden contains many of
the less common herbs as well as the old favorites. My
little shop is filled with products that I have
created and packaged myself. I believe
you will find a great deal of variety as well
as many very unique items.
The garden is, for me, and I hope for those who visit it, a
delight to the senses, especially in the summer when the air
is filled with a birdsong and buzzing bees and the fragrance
of the plants can be detected from the road.
Herbs are a pleasure all year round - growing and using them. Gardens
are open Mid May through the end of September from 9:30 until
4:00 most Tuesdays through Saturdays. Sundays and some
Holidays by chance or appointment. Please
contact us in advance especially if you are making a special
trip. After the growing season is over the herb shop remains
open until Christmas. From January until May it may be
open weekdays and Saturdays but usually by chance or by appointment.

The GARDEN provides
a sampling of the many approaches to theme gardening
with herbs. Different specialty sections
of the large garden include Culinary, 18th Century
American, Hummingbird and Butterfly, Apothecary,
Dye, Medieval, Silver or Moonlight, Fragrant, Shakespeare,
Sage, Scented Geranium, Antique Roses, Lavender,
Shade and very small water gardens. Plants
are all marked with common and botanical names. Visitors
may borrow descriptive garden guides for self-guided
tours. Questions are welcomed and I will
gladly walk through the garden with you if you
choose.
A large variety of herb plants are available for sale from
late May until September. Fresh cut herbs are often available
from June through September (variety and quantity depends upon
crop). The DRYING SHED offers
dried herbs and garden accessories.
In the HERB SHOP you will find
a large variety of unique handcrafted herb products created
from my own or traditional herbal recipes. The large
variety of culinary herb packages includes suggestions
for use as well as recipes.
Our hand blended potpourris
are made from high quality natural ingredients
from traditional "receipts." There are no
colored woodchips or fillers, simply naturally
fragrant material. In addition to the more
common dry potpourri we have "salted potpourri" and
moist potpourri both of which are made using methods
used for centuries. The moist potpourri is
said to last for 50 years! We also carry
supplies so that you can make your own potpourri. Try
our "Keepsake Potpourri" to blend with flowers
from your special occasions to create fragrant
memories. Our simmering potpourri will scent
and freshen your home with spicy, exotic or pine
woods fragrances. Make your own pomander
from one of our kits (a great project for kids!)
or buy a spicy pomander tied with a ribbon and
ready to hang. The AROMA
CUPBOARD contains aroma oils to soothe or
enliven, aroma simmer pots, light bulb rings, handmade
scented votive candles. You will find bath
herbs, foot scrubs and refreshers, herbal
hot and cold packs to ease aches and pains and
dream pillows to help soothe body and spirit. We
have herbal blends to help chase away moths from
your clothes. You might want to
try fragrant "Dyer Delights"--sachets to scent
drying laundry with clean fresh fragrance of lavender. The PET'S
CORNER has catnip beds, catnip toys, "Fleabags
for Dogs," natural dog cookie mix complete with
cookie cutter, "Gourmet Catnip," Herbal Hot and
Cold Packs for Pets, colorful, festive scarves
that slip through your pet's collar and other pet
related items.
